Tsinghua Tour
It was yet another beautiful warm, fine day (if a little smoggy), so I thought I’d go exploring around campus (the green patches on the left-hand-side on the map). Let me just say one thing…it is huge! (By the way, my dorm is in the top-left corner on the map.)
There’s a little canal lined with graceful willow trees on either side, which flows from the north, down the centre and to the west of campus. In the west, there’s also a Chinese garden with traditional-style buildings and corridors which brings you back in time. If there weren’t so many tourists, sitting by the small lake would be quite peaceful and relaxing…a great spot to sit with a good book, or just relax and enjoy the picturesque scenery. There are landscaped rock formations (just like the ones you often see in Chinese paintings…very “Chinesey”), including a waterfall. I’ll hold off saying anything about the state of the water, but I’d like to come again when the water lilies are in bloom. You’d never think you were on a university campus. It’s kinda amazing that a university would actually be included as a tourist attraction on a group tour.
